I said I wouldn't be that person on the neighborhood Garden Walk who buys annuals at the last minute. That looks so pathetic, so last-minute. But of the zillion things I did on Sunday, buying petunias and stuff for the pots on the front porch absolutely were two of them. Still needed: mulch around the box woods and day lilies, at least; I weeded the rest of the front mulch well enough to pass.
A daisy and the yarrows have begun blooming; the spirea is about to. Tiny tomatoes have begun forming. In other news, I have started talking to the snow peas, hoping that will make them bloom.
It's rained like crazy the last couple of 10 days, ending the bloom time of the peonies and flattening the spirea (which should have been pruned more severely).
